Barcaldine saw a strong turnout of union members and community as they gathered for the annual Labour Day March held in Barcaldine on 4th May 2026.

A day of reflection, storytelling, and community as visitors gathered to honour the legacy of the Tree of Knowledge, through the Young Un's 21st Anniversary and launch of Voices Under a Ghost Gum, by Ken Purdham.

In 2026, the Australian Workers Heritage Centre marks its 35th Anniversary - celebrating three and a half decades of preserving and sharing Australia's working history.

The annual May Day March on Monday 5th May 2025 will commence from the Globe Hotel/Visitor Information Centre and follow down Oak Street

It's a time to consider the history of Labour Day and its wider significance, with its connection to the Australian ideals of mateship and egalitarianism.

Friday, December 1st saw our local Barcaldine community come together for the Barcaldine Regional Council's “Barcaldine Community Lighting of the Tree & Carols".

We were lucky enough to have Jerry Coleby-Williams from Gardening Australia visit us at the Australian Workers Heritage Centre in September 2023.

The May Day Committee invites everyone - children, adults, sporting organisations, charity committees, businesses and schools to enter and nominate a float in the Procession.
