Labor House Donor Tree Appeal

Honouring Our Roots - Shaping Our Future

In celebration of Labor’s proud history and enduring values, we are creating a Donor Tree as part of the ‘Labor House’ upgrade. Inspired by the Tree of Knowledge, it will stand as both a tribute to our shared history and a symbol of growth, solidarity, and renewal.

Be Part of the Story

Our Donor Tree grows through the generosity of mates who believe in honouring Australia’s workers and their legacy. By adding your name, you’re helping us keep that legacy alive for future generations - ensuring the voices, values and achievements of our nation’s workers continue to be celebrated right here in Barcaldine.

Spirtual Home of the Australian Labor Party

Commemorating the 135th Anniversary
of the
Great Shearers’ Strike (1891–2026)

In 1891, under the shade of the Tree of Knowledge in Barcaldine, striking shearers stood together for fairness, dignity, and justice.

From that courageous stand, the working man’s voice in politics was born, and the foundations of the Australian Labor Party were laid.

Today, Barcaldine remains the spiritual home of the Labour movement – a place where the story of working people continues to inspire generations.

At the Australian Workers Heritage Centre, our much-loved ‘Labor House’ tells this story through powerful
photographs, The Worker cartoons, and the Workers Wall honouring State and Federal representatives.

Now, ‘Labor House’ is ready for renewal - and we invite you to be part of its next chapter

Pat Purcell, Henry Palaszczuk, Joe Ludwig, Chris Cummins, Milton Dick on the steps of Labor House - May 2005

United in purpose, we can protect the origins of Australia’s Labour Movement and ensure the voices that ignited change in Barcaldine continue to be heard.

Some contributions do more than sustain - they strengthen the very heart of the story we share.

For those who feel a deep connection to the roots of this movement and wish to help its branches reach higher, the Platinum Supporter Recognition offers a meaningful way to stand with us and ensure this story continues to grow.

Platinum Supporters are honoured with a unique emblem that celebrates the courage, strength, and spirit of Australia’s working people.

At its roots, the emblem reflects our deep connection to the land and the struggles of those who came before us, embodying the enduring strength and solidarity celebrated in Henry Lawson’s Freedom on the Wallaby.

The shearer’s hand shears rise from these roots - forged in the rhythm of honest labour and the song of the shearing sheds. Their open blades speak of skill, precision, and pride, timeless symbols of unity and the dignity of work.

The Eureka Flag waves proudly as a banner of collective courage, while the golden wattle blooms with quiet strength, symbolising renewal, resilience, and hope - the enduring spirit of Australia that flourishes even through hardship.

Becoming a Platinum Supporter is more than generosity - it is a mark of leadership and legacy. It places your name among those who helped shape the story of Australia’s working people - a legacy that will inspire, educate, and stand proud for generations to come.
