Explore life as a shearer at the Historic Blackall Woolscour, a fully functioning Heritage listed museum offering tours seasonally.

 

Blackall, Home of the Black Stump, which was used for surveying purposes and permanently marks the original Astro Station established in 1887. Anything west of this point is said to be ‘beyond the black stump’.

 

Visit the workshop of Tambo Teddies and watch tenderly crafted bears made from 100% woolen sheepskin come to life.

 

Don’t forget to take your photo in front of Blackall’s famous People’s Sign.

Things to Do in Barcaldine

The Garden City of the West, Barcaldine has an interesting and famous history.

 

Home to the Tree of Knowledge and birthplace of the Australian Labour movement, currently preserved under an award-winning timber structure, it is now a place of inspiration. As the sun sets, the tree is beautifully lit, giving the illusion that the tree is still living.

Longreach is the ‘Heart of Outback Queensland’, with iconic attractions like the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame, paying tribute to the Aussie Stockman and the Qantas Founders Museum where you can follow the history of Qantas through aircraft exhibits and tours.

 

Step back in time at the Powerhouse & Historical Museum housing local history, stories and artifacts as well as being the largest preserved rural generating facility in Australia.

 

Enjoy a rest stop at the famous Wellshot Hotel for a cold drink and counter meal. This pub stands as it was over 120 years ago.

The Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum of Natural History is home to the world's largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils.

 

Australia’s most iconic open-air theatre, the Royal Theatre Winton operates seasonal programs, including screenings of classic yesteryear, Australian movies and more. It is just one of two open-air theatres still operating in Australia.

 

Winton’s Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton, Outback Queensland tells the story of Waltzing Matilda, a song that lives in the hearts of all Australians as our unofficial anthem and the first museum in the world dedicated to a song.
