CHANGES TO TRADING HOURS

Sundays - 10am to 4pm
Good Paddock cafe is currently closed due to staff shortages. Re-opening date will be advised.

To comply with Queensland Government Health directives, facemasks and proof of vaccination
(via the Check-In QLD App) are required to visit
the Australian Workers Heritage Centre’s Displays, Exhibitions & Grounds.
Staff will ask for proof of vaccination. Let’s respect them as they do their job and keep us all safe.
VISITING OUR RETAIL SHOP:
There is no longer any requirement to Check-In, however face masks are required to be worn.

The AWHC is located in Barcaldine on the Matilda Highway, about an hours drive from Longreach, on the main street of Barcaldine at 127 Oak Street. The Workers Heritage Centre is one of Outback Queensland’s best kept secrets, a significant tourist destination and part of the Queensland Government’s Heritage Trails Network.
Barcaldine is situated at the crossroads of two major highways – the Capricorn Highway from Rockhampton in the east and the Landsborough Highway (part of the Matilda Highway Tourist Route) coming up from the south before heading west to Longreach.

Facilities
Spread across two hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding a tranquil billabong complete with fish, turtles and native birds,the Australian Workers Heritage Centre presents a rich tapestry of exhibits, photographs, audio-visual presentations and experiences - telling the stories of Australia's working people.
Visitors can enjoy a picnic or barbeque, while the kids explore our modern playground facilities.
The Orientation Centre at the entry point of the Centre hosts a shop which stocks our country clothing collection plus unique, high quality jewellery and gifts. Our merchandise showcases Queensland artists, designers and manufacturers. Drinks and snack foods are also available.
