The Worker's Heritage Centre is proud of the Wanpa-rda
Matilda Outback Education Centre - our very own on site
residential educational facility.
Centrally located, Wanpa-rda
makes a great 'base camp' from which school groups (both primary
and secondary) can explore the rich educational experiences
offered by Queensland's Central West Region.
Whether schools want to 'do their own thing' or follow structured
learning experiences developed by Education Queensland, we've
had some very positive feedback from
students and teachers.
What is it?
The Wanpa-rda
Matilda Outback Education Centre is an excursion centre
with a difference. Wanpa-rda shares the uniqueness of Central
Western Queensland with students, teachers, schools and local
communities by providing quality life and educational experiences.
From here you can visit 42 sites of natural beauty and historical
significance from Winton to Birdsville and from Barcaldine

Where is it?
The Wanpa-rda
Matilda Outback Education Centre is situated in the grounds
of the Australian Workers Heritage Centre in Ash Street Barcaldine.
Facilities
Residential
Wanpa-rda
is a residential facility incorporating a modern 56 bed dormitory
with large kitchen and dining rooms and a covered outdoor
dining and recreation centre.
Educational
The Centre is staffed by an Education Queensland on-site
education officer. Students can participate in specific learning
themes supported by Education
Queensland curriculum materials.
Bookings
The education officer will help with all aspects of your
school excursion, including tailoring itineraries and assisting
with travel bookings. We can provide all inclusive excursion
packages traveling on Queensland Rail's "Spirit
of the Outback".
